The DASCOM DC-8600 K Transfer Film is a genuine consumable designed for use with the DASCOM DC-8600 Retransfer ID Card Printer when printing monochrome black (K) cards. Paired with the DASCOM DC-8600 Black Monochrome K Ribbon, this film enables over the edge black printing that adheres reliably across a variety of card surfaces.

In the retransfer printing process, the black image is first printed onto this transfer film and then thermally bonded to the card surface. This method ensures consistent adhesion, professional crispness, and enhanced durability, even on smart, contactless, or uneven cards.

With a yield of up to 500 images, the DC-8600 K transfer film is ideal for organisations producing high-quality monochrome ID cards where clarity and performance matter.

Care Instructions

Dascom DC-8600 Retransfer Printer – Care Instructions

1) Keep the printer in the right environment (prevents most print defects)

  • Place the printer on a stable, level surface and keep it away from dust, direct sunlight, and high temperatures.
  • Keep liquids away from the printer at all times.
  • Avoid shock/impact/vibration, which can affect print alignment and feeding.

2) Power & safety before any maintenance

  • Always disconnect the printer from mains power before opening covers to perform cleaning or maintenance.
  • The printer contains hot components, allow adequate cooling time before touching internal areas. (The manual warns not to touch hot parts until the printer has been off long enough to cool.)
  • Don’t attempt repairs outside the manual, use a qualified technician when needed.

3) Handle ribbon + retransfer film correctly (critical on retransfer printers)

  • Do not touch the ribbon or retransfer film, direct contact can contaminate media and cause uneven print quality.
  • Avoid dropping, stressing, or knocking the ribbon/film cartridges during replacement.
  • Replace the retransfer film when the LCD shows “FILM END” to avoid print errors and downtime.

4) Use the correct consumables (protects print quality and reliability)

  • Dascom advises using Dascom-provided/approved consumables and accessories for best results.
  • The DC‑8600 cleaning set typically includes cleaning cards and a cleaning roller (often supplied/paired with consumables).

5) Replace the cleaning roller regularly (important)

  • A cleaning roller is supplied with each ribbon, and Dascom states it should be replaced each time you change the ribbon to maintain print quality and help protect the printhead.
  • Follow the manual steps: remove the cleaning cartridge, swap the roller, peel the protective coating, and re-seat the cartridge until it clicks into place.

6) Routine cleaning (follow the printer’s cleaning menu / manual steps)

The DC‑8600 user documentation includes cleaning procedures for:

  • Cleaning with a cleaning card
  • Cleaning the cleaning roller / feeding roller / transport roller
  • Filter cleaning

Best practice: run the recommended cleaning procedure whenever the printer prompts, after heavy usage, or if you notice feeding issues or print artifacts, and always use fresh, appropriate cleaning materials.

The Dascom DC-8600 is typically supplied without printing consumables (such as ribbons and blank cards), allowing you to choose the options that best match your card designs and volume requirements.

In the box, you can expect the essentials to get started with installation, such as the printer, power/adapter, USB cable, and the included software/driver media (CardEditor and drivers).

If you’re purchasing a bundle, consumables may be included depending on the package, so it’s always worth confirming what’s supplied with your specific configuration.

How do I set up the printer once i get it?

Setting up the Dascom DC-8600 is straightforward. Start by making sure both the printer and your computer are powered off before connecting any cables. Connect the power cord to the printer and mains, then choose your connection method (USB or Ethernet) using the ports on the rear of the printer.

USB Installation
