Care Instructions

Dascom DC-8600 Retransfer Printer – Care Instructions

1) Keep the printer in the right environment (prevents most print defects)

  • Place the printer on a stable, level surface and keep it away from dust, direct sunlight, and high temperatures.
  • Keep liquids away from the printer at all times.
  • Avoid shock/impact/vibration, which can affect print alignment and feeding.

2) Power & safety before any maintenance

  • Always disconnect the printer from mains power before opening covers to perform cleaning or maintenance.
  • The printer contains hot components, allow adequate cooling time before touching internal areas. (The manual warns not to touch hot parts until the printer has been off long enough to cool.)
  • Don’t attempt repairs outside the manual, use a qualified technician when needed.

3) Handle ribbon + retransfer film correctly (critical on retransfer printers)

  • Do not touch the ribbon or retransfer film, direct contact can contaminate media and cause uneven print quality.
  • Avoid dropping, stressing, or knocking the ribbon/film cartridges during replacement.
  • Replace the retransfer film when the LCD shows “FILM END” to avoid print errors and downtime.

4) Use the correct consumables (protects print quality and reliability)

  • Dascom advises using Dascom-provided/approved consumables and accessories for best results.
  • The DC‑8600 cleaning set typically includes cleaning cards and a cleaning roller (often supplied/paired with consumables).

5) Replace the cleaning roller regularly (important)

  • A cleaning roller is supplied with each ribbon, and Dascom states it should be replaced each time you change the ribbon to maintain print quality and help protect the printhead.
  • Follow the manual steps: remove the cleaning cartridge, swap the roller, peel the protective coating, and re-seat the cartridge until it clicks into place.

6) Routine cleaning (follow the printer’s cleaning menu / manual steps)

The DC‑8600 user documentation includes cleaning procedures for:

  • Cleaning with a cleaning card
  • Cleaning the cleaning roller / feeding roller / transport roller
  • Filter cleaning

Best practice: run the recommended cleaning procedure whenever the printer prompts, after heavy usage, or if you notice feeding issues or print artifacts, and always use fresh, appropriate cleaning materials.
